Play Spider Solitaire online (1 suit)
Spider uses two full decks and ten columns. In the one-suit version every card is a spade, so any card can go on the next one up. It's the best way to learn Spider, and it's properly relaxing.
How Spider works
You win by building eight full runs, King down to Ace, inside the columns. When a run is complete it lifts off the table on its own and lands bottom left.
- Building. Any card can go on a card one rank higher. A 7 goes on an 8.
- Moving runs. You can move a run of cards together if it is in order and all one suit. With one suit, that's any ordered run.
- Face-down cards turn over when you uncover them.
- Dealing. Tap the stock at the bottom right to deal ten new cards, one onto every column. You have five deals, and every column needs at least one card before you can deal.
- Empty columns take any card or run.
Tips for one suit
- Turn cards over first. A move that reveals a face-down card is almost always better than one that doesn't.
- Treasure empty columns. An empty column lets you untangle long mixed stacks. Try to have one before you deal.
- Don't rush the stock. Each deal buries every column a little deeper, so make every useful move first.
Once one suit feels easy, move up to two-suit Spider. There's more on strategy in our Spider tips post.
Questions people ask
- How do I win Spider Solitaire?
- Build eight complete runs from King down to Ace in the same suit. Each finished run clears itself from the table. Clear all eight and you win.
- Why can't I deal from the stock?
- Spider only lets you deal when every column has at least one card. Move a card into any empty column, then tap the stock again.
- How many times can I deal?
- Five times. Each deal puts one card on each of the ten columns, which uses up the 50 cards in the stock.
- Is one-suit Spider easy?
- It is the gentlest version of Spider, and most games can be won with some patience. It still takes planning, especially near the end.
